Review ~ Mink Chocolate Cafe - Warm and Luscious

by 8chocolate on January 3, 2009

Around the corner from where I used to work is a chocolate café called Mink. I would go there for my Americano coffee in the morning when I needed caffeine to get me going. The nice part is they also give you a little wrapped piece of dark chocolate with each beverage. I would put the chocolate in my coat pocket and always forget about it until on the way home when I would reach into my pocket and find this great sweet surprise. It was a nice way to end the day.

I chose Mink to be my first post because of the dedication they put into everything they do and the chocolate is soooo good. From the dark morsel of chocolate given with your drinks to the unique, exotic combinations they put into their luxury chocolates to the exquisite presentation with their packaging and logo. Mink is more than a chocolate shop – it really IS a chocolate café.

Mink Chocolate Fondue

There will be future posts on their chocolate flavour infusions (over 30!) but I wanted to share my experience with their luscious chocolate fondue. It’s under $10 and you can request dark or milk chocolate. It’s presented on a white tray with seasonal fruit (strawberries and bananas this time) and cake, similar to pound cake, cut up into bite size pieces.

It was absolutely heaven! Skewering the fruit with the fork, I dipped them into the warm and velvety chocolate. You get a generous amount of melted chocolate and it’s kept warm by the flame below the pot. Controlling the amount of chocolate you smother on is a challenge so pace yourself. And don’t forget to grab some napkins before you sit down as I guarantee you will drip chocolate on yourself or on your face.

If you are looking for a dessert that is light, fresh and has chocolate all over it, this is the place to visit. Next time you are in Vancouver, check out the Mink Chocolate Café.
