Review ~ Chuao Chocolatier Chocolate Bars

by 8chocolate on January 11, 2009

Chuao Chocolate BarI checked out the newest location of Urban Fare that opened next to the new luxury Shangri-La hotel or as some of us call it, Shangri-La dee da. I knew they would have a great selection of high end chocolates and found not only chocolate bars from all corners of the world but the chocolate section had its own counter and attendant who was very knowledgeable about all the different chocolate companies.

I picked up an assortment of chocolates to taste and the first one I was drawn to was the Caracas chocolate bar made in California from Chuao Chocolatiers. The company’s tagline is ‘Unusual Unexpected Delicious’ which it was.

Chuao Caracas Chocolate Bar

The Caracas bar is dark chocolate with almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios. Many chocolate bars with nuts have small pieces blended in but this bar had large chunks and whole pieces of nut. This bar was as much about the nuts as it was the chocolate, so anyone who likes nuts with their chocolate won’t be disappointed.

It’s 60% Cacao and with the nuts the chocolate didn’t taste rich and deep but very creamy and smooth. I especially liked the pistachios, as I don’t normally find them combined with dark chocolate. I highly recommend this bar when you are in the mood for a meaty chocolate bar. As an added bonus, their ingredients are non-GMO and their cacao is slave free. They have other flavours that include extra spice or Earl Grey tea. I’m not an Earl Grey tea lover so I’ll encourage someone else to provide feedback on that Chuao flavour.
