I was out for a walk today when a bus passed me on the street. There on the back of the bus were pigs. Not just any pigs but Truffle Pigs from Hagensborg Chocolates. I figured it was an omen to taste the Truffle Pig bar I had waiting for me at home.

There are six flavours of this whimsical chocolate bar but the one that I had been anticipating was the Dark Orange. Dark chocolate and orange is a classic combination. The tag line on the wrapper says, ‘Wallow in European dark chocolate truffle heaven’.
The first thing I noticed when unwrapping the bar are the fun and playful pigs. This company could have chosen a standard chocolate bar mold but instead chose to mold their bar with three portly pigs. Unexpected and you realize this company likes to have fun with chocolate. A visit to their website confirms it. The fairytale continues there with chocolate frogs, lions and soon polar bears.

As soon as you bite into the chocolate you can taste the sweet orange essence. The bar has a nice, creamy, dark chocolate exterior encasing a light truffle interior. (I know it doesn’t look dark with the lighting on the bar but trust me it was dark and rich) The truffle melts first in your mouth and you are left with the dark chocolate enclosure. It’s just the right amount of sweetness and definitely recommend trying if you are a fan of orange and dark chocolate. As an added bonus, the ingredients they use are also all natural.
I was surprised to learn they were a Vancouver company. This town sure has an abundance of chocolate shops and manufacturers. Why live anywhere else when you’re this close to chocolate heaven.

I am not a fan of cartoon gimmick animals such as a pig on any chocolate wrappers but I must say that the truffle chocolates from Hagensborg Chocolates are quite smooth and silky. My favouite ones are the Peanut Butter, Orange and Mint. I personally do not like the Raspberry or Mocha as their taste was not exactly what I was looking for. They need to add more rich flavour in their quality of sweetness. Would I purchase another chocolate bar from them?…….probally not. But I would go over my budget any day for Thomas Haas or Purdy’s chocolates. They are simply the best!

Lucy I have to agree with you. I think Hagensborg are a good choice if you need a quick fix and in a store that offers them over the main stream chocolate bars or should I really say ‘candy’ bars. Thomas Haas Sparkle cookies warm are to die for and I’m going to try making them in the next few days and share the recipe and outcome. As for Purdy’s, I admit I have my favourites. Sweet Georgia Browns are my real downfall.
I HEART Truffle Pig! They are all so smooth and creamy. The peanut butter is my absolute favorite. It melts in your mouth. I also don’t usually like a lot of dark chocolates but this one is so delicious. I also recently tried the raspberry and the peanut butter together to make a PB & J. YUM!
The little pigs stamped in the chocolate really made me smile too. Such a delight!
The best smooth and creamy delights are from “Rocky Mountain Chocolates and Purdy’s”
The truffle pig chocolates are simply the best chocolates I have ever seen or had the pleasure of tasting. The caramel piglets… OMG. The peanut butter ones OMG!!! Or you can try taking a bite of raspberry bar and then peanut butter bar, it takes like a peanut butter and jam sandwich !!! I love it!!!!
The chocolate melts in your mouth, it is not too sweet. It is perfect.
