For the last 20 days, Vancouver has been under a weather inversion – fog 24 hours a day. Not being able to see anything beyond the building across the street can really get to you and that’s being polite. Well, when the sun came out yesterday and finally peeled away the fog, everyone’s mood lifted and there were smiles on the street.
This was cause for celebration and what better way than with a visit to Thomas Haas Chocolate & Patisserie in North Vancouver. Thomas Haas came to Vancouver by way of Germany and New York. Lucky for us he and his wife decided to stay!
Known for his award winning Chocolate Sparkle Cookies, he also makes fabulous desserts that not only taste amazing but also are a feast for the eyes. His shop and bakery operations are in the middle of an industrial area at the end of a cul de sac. It doesn’t matter that the road ends here. After discovering this chocolate shop, you wouldn’t want to drive any further. As you walk into the shop, the aroma of chocolate is intoxicating and the various chocolates and desserts are visually stunning. Each one is it’s own spectacle.
I chose the Crispy Chocolate-Raspberry dessert. “Dark Manjari chocolate-raspberry mousse, light vanilla Bavarian, chocolate sacher sponge cake, & crispy hazelnut wafer”. The chocolate mousse infused with raspberry was light and smooth and then it finished in your mouth with deep dark chocolate and a crisp bite from the wafer. I savoured every bite.
My partner broke from tradition and he chose a lemon lemon tart, which is fine by me since lemon tart is my next favourite thing after anything chocolate. No, that’s not a typo. It really is named lemon lemon as this tart incorporates two lemon elements. “Shortbread crust, fresh zesty lemon cream on top of light lemon custard”. The tangiest lemon dessert I have ever had and oh soooo creamy. The only thing that could have made this better was if it was encased in dark chocolate but then what wouldn’t be better in dark chocolate.
If you’re thinking of dropping by on the weekend then make it Saturday as they are closed on Sundays. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 5:30pm, you deserve to visit Thomas Haas after the weather we’ve seen this winter. If you can’t make it, you can always order his chocolates and famous Chocolate Sparkle cookies online. He ships within North America.

I divinely love Thomas Haas Chocolates in North Vancouver. They are exceptionally perfect on how they envision their award winning desserts and exquisite fine chocolates. I personally find them far better than “Hagensborg Chocolates” as their fairytale theme is not exactly appealing when they showcase a truffle PIG on their bars which they need to be more presentable on how they capture customers.
Thomas and Lisa Haas are remarkable people and will always be our number one sweet choice for all of our upcoming corporate events. 8chocolate, as you commented on previously, they pay close attention to every detail and care about what they offer. You would never have to worry about quality or taste in any desserts or chocolates that you would offer at any event. One less thing to worry about and you would get all the praise!
NOW, this is a “REAL” Chocolate Company to be PROUD of
Sincerely,
Priscilla Patterson
I’ve been toying with making chocolate cakes and pies and such. Right now all we do is confections. Sigh. I would be nice to do it all but that’s not going to happen right now. Maybe in the future.
I think it doesn’t matter how much you do. It just matters that what you do is exceptional.
Oh boy… I would love to have gone to a shop like this for the smells alone.
LA is sooooooooo LA (if you know what I mean).
Thanks for stopping by.. .I’m sorry for not being able to leave a comment…. you’re blog is WONDERFUL.
